sweet potato puree

9 months+

1 sweet potato
1/2 cup breast milk, formula or water

Wash the potato well under cold water.

There are three ways to cook potatoes. Microwaving is the quickest and easiest method, while oven roasting develops the most flavor. Choose which way you want to cook your sweet potatoes, then cook until tender.

microwave:

Use a fork to pierce all over the skin of the potato. Place the potato on a microwave-safe dish and cook for 4 minutes. Turn over, then continue cooking until tender, about 5 more minutes. Use a spoon to scoop out the potato, discarding the skin.

boil:

Peel the potato, then rinse. Chop into large chunks, then place in a saucepan and cover with water. Bring to a boil. Cook until tender (about 5-15 minutes). Drain in a colander.

roast:

Preheat the oven to 425°F. Peel, then chop the potato into 1-inch chunks and toss with olive oil. Place the potatoes in a single layer on a baking sheet lined with aluminum foil. Roast until the potatoes are tender, flipping halfway through, about 30 minutes.

Place the potato in a mixing bowl with the breast milk, formula, or water. Mash to create a thick puree with tiny lumps.
